Pitlochry Dam Visitor Centre

Pitlochry Dam Visitor Centre

The Pitlochry Dam Visitor Centre is an exciting and immersive (perhaps not literally!) experience where you can discover fascinating fact about hydroelectricity in the Highlands.

Expected to welcome 88,000 visitors in its first year, the team at the centre have worked hard to make it a must-visit attraction.

The centre is truly breath-taking, with bold and dramatic architecture standing proudly over the dam. In fact, the visitor centre’s innovative design seems to make the visitor centre almost hover above the ground as it has been built on stilts to make the most of the stunning scenery that surrounds the site.

It is truly a sight worth seeing, simply to marvel at this incredible design which pays homage to the pioneers behind futuristic hydropower and the green energy revolution as a whole.

As well as being an impressive building, the centre thoroughly explains the benefits of hydro power and how it is helping the community. The exhibitions are thoughtful and interesting, covering the achievements of the Tunnel Tigers as well as explaining how the famous salmon navigate through the dam, river and fish ladders to reach their spawning ground.

After enjoying the attractions, you can relax in the large, spacious café which capitalises on the views of the dam and the river Tummel. There are not many places that you can enjoy lunch with such a beautiful outlook and an impressive engineering system running below you as you eat. Make sure you bring your camera to enjoy those high aspects and stunning river views.

If the above wasn’t quite enough to tempt you, the cost certainly will. This newly opened attraction offers free entry, making the Pitlochry Dam Visitor Centre an opportunity not to pass up!
